Time of Flight Diffraction (TOFD) system utilizes the principles of ultrasonic testing to enhance flaw detection and sizing in materials.
This advanced method employs a pair of ultrasonic probes, positioned on opposite sides of a weld or area of interest, to detect flaws based on the time of flight of ultrasonic waves diffracted by flaw tips. TOFD’s unique capability to detect and size flaws irrespective of their orientation relative to the beam direction, along with its ability to create detailed B-scan images, makes it a powerful tool for ensuring structural integrity. The technique’s precision and reliability in detecting even non-orientated cracks and other anomalies make it a preferred method in critical safety inspections.
